My commitment: Cherry Lake Ward candidate: I support the completion of important sections of existing bike paths in Hobsons Bay to increase the options for active transport by bicycle. While we have seen investment in sections, we have a dot-to-dot picture that needs to be finished. Cross town connections are not only beneficial for cyclists (whether commuting or recreational riding) but for improving access to communities in ways other than by road and car. I would consult with bike groups and other stakeholders to determine priority of project. Additionally, we have bike tracks on roadsides which are used by many cyclists. It's all very well to have the lines painted to denote the track, but they must be kept clean and safe for cyclists who use them. I support Ride2School programs and have initiated ride to school days supervised along bike paths with up to 40 students. Safe road crossings and secure bike parking options are necessary. Continued investment in cycling routes, infrastructure, awareness and safety for cyclists contributes to individual and community well-being.
