Candidate for Darebin (VIC)

Party: independent

I live in city/suburb: Reservoir

My commitment: As a bike rider from an early age, I have commuted my children to school and continued on to my own studies, as well as cross-town shopping and visiting trips over many years. Since moving to Darebin 7 years ago my health has not made it easy to continue these practices. Also I have noticed the limits of local routes for the direction I have needed to travel for local shopping or other community services. The few outings I have been on with Darebin BUG would not have been possible without the guide - no adequate signage. I would bring such awareness to Council, and also proceed with links between small community parks which arose through a community consultation I undertook for the development of a Storytelling Garden. I am aware that many in Zone 1 do not know what it is like in the nether regions of Darebin's north, and I would encourage "local tourism" for discovery, shopping and other community vitalisation. My direct knowledge of the projects under consideration by voters in the southern wards would also be enhanced once in the council chamber, and I would be able to respond from my experience as well as be open to the experience and development of potential guided by others closer to the city. Personally affected by changes in school priorities around bike education and daytime parking, I would advocate for more support across many organisations and groups to remedy this tendency to backflip on policies. Local repair and share groups would also be encouraged through neighbourhood houses and similar.
