Candidate for Glen Eira (VIC)

Party: Labor - not endorsed

I live in city/suburb: Bentleigh

My commitment: I am a member of the Carnegie Caulfield Cycling Club (CCCC), commuter (ride to work most days) and also tow my 5 and 1 year old around in a bike trailer at any opportunity. My wife and I are passionate about the outdoors and cycling. We share concerns that others in the cycling community have about riding on the road. The Glen Eira council has initiated a number of infrastructure improvements, in consultation with some residents. These improvements will benefit cyclists, but I would also like to recommend fresh ideas as a regular cyclist/road user in the area. For instance, the section of North road, between East Boundary road and Warrigal road being of particular concern. Creating safe alternate routes could be a potential positive outcome with local consultation being key to outcomes. The Ride2School program is an important initiative. Safety around children on bikes is paramount and priority attention should be given towards this. The Carnegie Caulfield Cycling Club velodrome (at Packer park) also requires further funding to accommodate the growing number of cyclists in the area participating in regular track racing. Addressing safety for the growing number of cyclists in Glen Eira is an important step towards encouraging more people out on the bike to get healthy and to leave the car at home!
