Candidate for Wyndham (VIC)
Party: Greens
I live in city/suburb: Werribee
My commitment: I am an advocate for better cycling infrastructure in Wyndham. I think it is a key strategy to address the traffic and parking problems in our city, particularly around schools and stations. I would like to see cycling become a more preferred option to jumping in the car for local trips. To this end, I will prioritise cycling routes which are logical, well-connected and safe. I will listen to members of WynBUG and other cyclists to understand their experiences, concerns and ideas. I will ask Council to learn from best practice behaviour-change programs such as Ride to Work Day and TravelSmart to encourage people to switch to cycling. I will work towards safe cycling links between Werribee South/Point Cook and Hoppers/Werribee. I will work with schools to address the barriers to children riding safely to school. I will ensure that cycling infrastructure is always factored into the design of new precincts and in road upgrades. I will look into the feasibility of introducing a fleet of bikes for use by council staff, particularly local laws officers who patrol parks and open spaces.
