Candidate for Moreland (VIC)

Party: Greens

I live in city/suburb: Brunswick

My commitment: Riding a bike is my primary mode of transport in and around Melbourne. As more people realise the wonderful benefits of cycling, I believe the city needs to adapt to that growing enthusiasm to maintain a high level of bicycle infrastructure and education. On Council, I will support the Moreland Bicycle Strategy 2011-2021 and work to ensure that funding continues to increase towards improving bike paths. These improvements include separating cyclists and pedestrians to improve safety on the busiest shared paths. I will also work towards linking up existing bicycle paths to create a better bicycle network and address gaps by creating new routes that run from north-south and east-west through the city. I would also like to see more bicycle parking at high use areas such as schools and shopping areas and further upgrades to the Brunswick East Shimmy - a fantastic and innovative concept. We have a comprehensive bicycle policy that can be found at at http://morelandgreens.co.cc/policies/sustainable-transport/
