Candidate for Banyule (VIC)
Party: ALP
I live in city/suburb: Ivanhoe
My commitment: Cycling is a great way to reduce traffic congestion, increase our health and well-being, and minimise our impact on the environment. I believe that much more can be done to improve bicycle infrastructure in Banyule and increase cycling rates. A key priority is to extend the Darebin Creek Trail through to the Main Yarra Trail. This project will require financial commitments from local and State Government. Given the regional significance of this link, I will also be advocating that Banyule Council (in conjunction with neighbouring municipalities) explore other potential funding programs – such as those offered by the Federal Government - to complete this vital link. At a local level, there are a number of improvements that can be made to the local bicycle path network that will encourage bicycle usage and improve cyclist safety. My initial focus will be on low-cost solutions, such as defining safe access routes to train stations, activity centres and off-road paths, and improving end-of-trip facilities at these destinations.
