My commitment: We Greens in Yarra have worked hard to boost cycling ever since the first Greens were elected to Council ten years ago, and quadrupled the Council bike budget. Yarra has consistently been at the top of the BIXE index for investment in cycling since then, and has had Victoria's highest rates of cycling. We will continue to work hard to deliver well-maintained and improved cycling infrastructure. As cyclists ourselves, we also model the behaviour we seek to promote - as Mayor last year I showed up for media opportunities and meetings with other politicians on my bike whenever I could, and took every opportunity presented to talk up cycling as good for health, the environment and congestion as well as a cheap, fast and fun way to travel, for young, old and even middle-aged asthmatics with dodgy netball knees like me.
