Candidate for Ballarat (VIC)
Party: Independent
I live in city/suburb: Cardigan
My commitment: I'm fully committed to supporting alternative forms of transport to the car. I stand as a community voice and good shared bike / pedestrain paths throughout Ballarat is important particularly now that we have the 'Transport Intergration Act'. I have completed a number of Great Victorian Bike Rides, including provide advice to school groups on the Ballarat to Ballarat ride. I live near the Ballarat-Skipton rail-trail and love it. I use it to jog with my dogs and ride bikes with my grand children. Bike parking being provided in strip shopping centres is part of encouraging more bike use. Ballarat City to the University and further to Buninyong needs improved bike infrastructure both on-road and off-road. Governments lobbying needs to continue for this route. A shared path along the rail line from Wendouree to Ballarat is an idea that should be investigate further. I participate in the Ride2Work and fully support the Ride2School. I would like to see better bike access to the sport precinct along Dowling Street, Wendouree and some of the missing links addressed i.e Chisholm Street between Sim Street and Humffray Street, the steep hill section.
