Candidate for Darebin (VIC)
Party: Independent
I live in city/suburb: Northcote
My commitment: I was a regular bike rider for two decades both as a commuter and for recreation and I am also a BN member. Cycling was my primary means of transport but unfortunately a bad knee has restricted it in recent times. While a Northcote City Councillor our council did a major bike study which put cycling on the local agenda with early improvements to infrastructure. I was also the first Northcote councillor to actively engage with our local BUG. I am well aware of all the Darebin specific priorities raised by BN; I support the building of the Darebin Bridge and I recognise the importance of the Darebin Road/Livingstone Street and Wingrove Street/South Crescent as key routes having used both of them on many occasions. I also think that kerb outstand bike parks are a great idea and should encourage cycling to shopping and business centres. Finally Ride2 School. This ticks a number of boxes such as promoting the health of our young people and sustainable transport so should also be supported. Clearly none of these things happen overnight and will require advocacy, resources and consultation with our cycling community. If elected, I will throw whatever weight I can behind the promotion of cycling as a key means of transport and the provision of the requisite infrastructure.
