Candidate for Kingston (VIC)

Party: Independent

I live in city/suburb: Carrum

My commitment: As an enthusiastic cyclist since primary school, I am committed to increasing Council’s expenditure on bicycle infrastructure from $3.11 per resident BIXE threshold to $5.00 per resident BIXE threshold. I am on the executive of the Metropolitan Transport Forum and I will continue to advocate for the state government to restore its funding for bicycle projects in Kingston. I have taken my children on a number of Bicycle Vic Tours in Victoria, NSW, SA and Tasmania. I supported the 12-month trial of weekend ‘no standing’ restrictions (6am-10am) along Beach Road to not only improve road safety, but also reduce the number of incidents involving cyclists and motorists along Beach Road. It is a lot safer riding at night where there is good street lighting along Beach Rd. that is one of the reasons why I support the kerb side option from Charman Rd to Mordialloc, and it has worked well in Port Phillip and Bayside. I regularly ride to Council meetings, and to community meetings. I believe in creating a safe environment for all cyclists. I am passionate about cycling and want to see it developed in Kingston to allow all residents to use cycling as a safe and convenient method of transport. One of the four walking school bus programs I initiated in Kingston, Carrum Primary has now joined the Ride2School program. It is a great way to increase the number of children actively traveling to school (ride, walk, skate or scoot) and reduce the amount of traffic at school times. To assist cyclists to ride safety to work, I am supporting the extension of a safe bicycle lane along Wells Rd and Boundary Rd from Mordialloc Creek to Cheltenham Rd.
