Candidate for Boroondara (VIC)

Party: Independent

I live in city/suburb: Hawthorn East

My commitment: As the councillor for Gardiner Ward, I have always been a strong supporter of cycling and providing infrastructure. The Gardiner Creek Trail, one of the busiest in Melbourne, runs through my ward. I have promoted improvements along the trail and lobbied for the new bridge over Gardiner’s Creek to the east of Glenferrie Road. The bridge will be constructed in the next few months. I strongly supported BBug for access from the trail to Tooronga Village, and took keen interest in the proposals to the trail beside the new Masters Store. In addition to funds to implement our bike strategy, Council has also allocated money for bike treatments/safety measures. Council will be erecting signs in Glenferrie Road, warning motorists to beware of bikes to alert the danger of “doorings”. A number of accident spots will also be treated. I regularly take part in Ride to Work. Last year a resident at our HA Smith breakfast suggested a wider entrance to the GCT from Reserve Road. I am pleased to say this has now been constructed. I participate in Mayors on Bikes. I am a recreational cyclist, and I ride because I enjoy it! I support the Darebin Bridge (voted in favour), Ride2School (and Council’s own Get 2 School Cool) and I have always supported more bike racks in our strip shops.
