Candidate for Melbourne (VIC)
Party: The Greens
I live in city/suburb: Southbank
My commitment: As a Greens candidate for Melbourne City Council, I am committed to fast-tracking the expansion of Melbourne’s bike network and making this a budget priority. This expansion would start with the 49 routes identified in the City of Melbourne’s Bike Plan. We will also make cycling safer by creating separated bike lanes along streets with a high incidence of dooring accidents, starting with the lengths of St Kilda Rd and Elizabeth St. You can view the Greens’ complete, and detailed transport policy for the City of Melbourne here: www.melbournecitygreens.com/transport. I live in Southbank and am completing a PhD at the University of Melbourne. North-south cycling connections are really important to connect people in Southbank with the rest of the City. A separated bike path the length of St Kilda Rd is essential, and we’ve waited too long for it already. We also need to make sure that the Sandridge Bridge remains open to cyclists, or we risk cutting off access to the City for many cyclists.
