Candidate for Melbourne (VIC)
Party: The Greens
I live in city/suburb: North Melbourne
My commitment: As a Greens candidate for Melbourne City Council, I am committed to fast-tracking the expansion of Melbourne’s bike network and making this a budget priority. This expansion would start with the 49 routes identified in the City of Melbourne’s Bike Plan. We will also make cycling safer by creating separated bike lanes along streets with a high incidence of dooring accidents, starting with the lengths of St Kilda Rd and Elizabeth St. You can view the Greens’ complete, and detailed transport policy for the City of Melbourne here: www.melbournecitygreens.com/transport. While the Baillieu Government ditched the Bike Budget this year, I was able to secure $5.6 million for cycling infrastructure in this year’s Council budget. There is a lot more to be done though, and if I’m re-elected to Council I will be committed to making it happen. With more Greens Councillors supporting me we’ll be able to achieve even more for bikes in next year’s budget. It'd be great to see more Councillors joining me in cycling to work too, to support council's sustainable transport goals.
