Candidate for Melbourne (VIC)
Party: The Greens
I live in city/suburb: Carlton
My commitment: As the Greens candidate for Deputy Lord Mayor of Melbourne, I am committed to fast-tracking the expansion of Melbourne’s bike network and I will make this a budget priority. This expansion would start with the 49 routes identified in the City’s Bike Plan. I would also make cycling safer by creating separated bike lanes along streets with a high incidence of dooring accidents, starting with the lengths of St Kilda Rd and Elizabeth St. You can view our complete, and detailed transport policy for the City of Melbourne here: www.melbournecitygreens.com/transport. I live in Carlton and work at the University of Melbourne where many staff and students commute to work by bike. Many of the bike routes that commuters to the University use urgently need to be upgraded to make them safe. Particularly, along Faraday St between Canning St and the University as well as the intersection at Rathdowne and Queensberry Streets.
